Report Concern:
This morning the Campus Safety and Security office received an anonymous tip that there was a possible weapon located in East Hall in a specific residential room.  Campus Safety and Security along with Residence Life staff, responded and located an air pistol in the room along with plastic bb’s.  Items were confiscated and the owner is identified.

We would like to thank the anonymous caller for the information and enforce that the safety of all members of the Campus Community is taken seriously and this situation has been resolved.

Reported Offense:
On Sunday, May 7th at approximately 10:20 a.m., a motorist fleeing from the Watertown City Police came on to campus and was quickly arrested by Watertown City Police on campus.  The person is not connected with the College.

Campus Alert - Sexual Assault

Reported Offense:
A Jefferson Community College student reported a sexual assault that occurred on Sunday, April 9, 2017 in East Hall.  The suspect was a registered guest and was known to the reporting party. 

College officials know the identities of all parties and are proceeding with action in accordance with college policies.

Police took a male student into custody this morning in connection with a larceny in the community.  No further details are available.

Report Concern:
College officials were made aware of hateful graffiti defacing a campus restroom today.  The Watertown City Police were called to investigate and determine a course of action.  Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to report any hateful behavior immediately to Campus Safety and Security at 315-786-2222 or by contacting the Watertown Police Department at 911. 

The campus community is invited to the McVean Student Lounge for a discussion on Friday, February 10 at 2:30 PM.   The conversation will be facilitated by Dean of Students Rocco Cappello and Dean of Continuing Education and Student Diversity Fellow Terrence Harris.

Non-credible Bomb Threat

Report Concern:
JCC’s Campus Safety and Security office was made aware of a possible bomb threat on campus on Friday, September 30th in the late afternoon. The Watertown Police Department were called immediately and determined the threat was not credible, but officers did check parts of campus and did not find anything suspicious.

A Jefferson Community College student reported a sexual assault that occurred on Saturday, September 3, 2016 in East Hall.  The suspect, a Jefferson Community College male student, was known to the reporting party. 

College officials know the identities of all parties and are proceeding with action in accordance with college policies.

Reported Offense:
At approximately 12:55 this afternoon it was reported that an ambulance, firefighters, and police were dispatched to the Jefferson County Fair in to a trailer near an amusement ride for a report of gunshot fired.  Watertown Police Department was contacted and stated that there is no immediate threat or risk to the Jefferson Community College.  All traffic has been resumed into and from the fair.

Statement on Hoverboard and Similar Devices

Report Concern:
 

Jefferson Community College prohibits self-balancing scooters, more popularly known as hoverboards, along with battery operated scooters and hands-free Segways on campus due to recent concerns by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and the potential impact these devices may have on campus safety.  This response is part of the College's ongoing efforts to maintain a safe living, learning and working environment and campus community that is free from recognized hazards to operators and bystanders.

There are several safety and consumer agencies currently investigating fires and injuries related to these devices.  Once investigations have been completed, the College will re-evaluate its stance on these devices.

If you own a self-balancing scooter, battery operated scooter or hands-free Segway, please make sure the device is not brought to campus and specifically to East Hall when returning from winter break.

Drug Arrest Made on Campus

Reported Offense:
Two students were arrested on campus today (September 24) for an alleged drug charge by the Watertown City Police Department.  The two students are now suspended from Jefferson Community College. All media inquiries need to be directed to the Marketing & Public Relations Department at 315-786-2234.
