Jefferson offers a variety of workshops for professional growth and career training. The College also works with area employers and development organizations to build customized training opportunities for workforce initiatives.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Home-Based Child Care Training program provides participants with the knowledge, skills, and support to become in-home childcare providers. Lewis County, Jefferson County, the Community Action Planning Council (CAPC), Jefferson Community College (JCC), and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) have collaborated to design and launch this innovative program. The program is provided at no cost to participants through the generous sponsorship of Lewis and Jefferson Counties.
Your child care provider career starts at Jefferson
The home-based child care program is designed to prepare you to become a Home-Based Child Care Provider. At the conclusion of the program, participants are expected to have gained NYSOCFS approval to operate a home-based child care program and will have earned a Certificate of Completion from JCC. This certificate signifies competencies in early childhood education and small business management.

Training Program Kickoff Meeting
Attend a kick-off meeting where you’ll receive information on program partners, program team members, program details, syllabus, and schedule.
Note: The OCFS application that is required to apply for a childcare program license includes a background check.

PROGRAM ADMISSIONS
Cost: Grant funding coverages full cost of program. Funding available to residents of Jefferson County or Lewis County.
All participants must provide proof and status of Covid-19 vaccination.
Step 1: Complete Interest Form. Pre-registration deadline is March 7, 2022.
Step 2: Complete the NYS Division of Child Care Services Child Day Care Orientation
(2-hour online course).

PROGRAM SCHEDULE
Cohort II is scheduled for March 2022 – December 2022.
- Total program participant time commitment is approximately 30 hours, or 1-5 hours per week including independent work over the course of 6 months.
- Non-credit and credit training schedule TBA.
- Training is available virtually and in person at the Lewis County Education Center and JCC Campus.

April 21, 2022, 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. – Lowville, NY, Lewis County Education Center
All participants must provide proof of vaccination.
A notary public of the common law is a public officer constituted by law to serve the public in non-contentious matters usually concerned with general financial transactions, estates, deeds, powers-of-attorney, and foreign and international business.
Prepare to be a Notary Public:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the authority, duties and responsibilities of the Notary Public Office.
- Topics include avoiding conflicts of interest, maintaining professional ethics, charging proper fees, handling special situations, when to defer to an attorney, and minimizing legal liability.
- An 80 question practice exam is included.
Lowville Class:

April 16, 2022 – Watertown, NY, JCC Campus
All participants must provide proof and status of Covid-19 vaccination.
The ServSafe Certification is ideal for individuals who wish to prepare to take the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Exam. This one day 8-hour course will prepare your restaurant operation to meet state managed training requirements for foodservice personnel. This workshop will empower employees with the knowledge and skills they need to prepare and serve foods safely.
- Gain necessary skills and knowledge to prepare foods safely
- Tuition covers the cost of the ServSafe Essentials 7th Edition textbook, exam, and proctoring of the exam during the course.
- The ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification exam is take during the final 90-miutes of the course.
- Sign up early as enrollment is limited.
